I don't know about you but ironing is the bane of my life, i hate it with a passion and have to admit i will only get the iron out now if something is super creased or will cheat and use my straighteners! So when Philips were kind enough to send me a new gadget to try out, that would help me with those last minute creases, i jumped at the chance...The Phillips Steam & Go.
"This handheld garment steamer is ideal for last moment touch-ups and difficult-to-iron clothes. Easy-to-use and quick, it is the perfect addition to your iron. This model has a heated plate and a 2-in-1 function enabling horizontal steaming." Philips

The Philips Steam & Go is a compact handheld garment steamer, which means you don’t need and ironing board and can get started straightaway. It’s not supposed to replace an iron (would take forever to do a whole basket of washing), but for those minute last touch-ups and difficult-to-iron clothes. It has been designed specifically so that you can steam both vertically and horizontally, making it possible to even steam soft furniture and bed linen - super handy as the hot steam "kills up to 99.9% of bacteria on clothes and removes cigarette, food and body odours" according to the Philips website, so perfect for a cat owner. Its SmartFlow technology heats up the steam plate and keeps it at the optimal temperature for all fabrics. To use it, you simply fill up the detachable water tank, wait 45 seconds and then you can start smoothing out your clothes (so easy even hubby can use - he is the kind of guy in a comedy sketch who would forget about the iron and burn holes in the garment).

First up the cord is quite short, but once i had positioned myself and my clothes rail, it only took about 45 seconds for the steamer to heat up and I was able de-creased my garments without any problems. I first tried it on a silky top that had got a little creased up in the wash, then on a very creased cotton skirt that had been packed away in my "summer" box for a few months which as expected took a little longer. The Philips Steam & Go did a really good job getting all the creases out on both items, but since the detachable water tank is quite small I had to refill it a couple of times during the process, but that wasn't an issue just helpful to have water handy. Overall, I have to say that I really like the Philips Steam & Go, especially for the delicate items in my wardrobe, suitable for all use on fabrics - but perfect for dedicates such as silk, lace and embellishments. Plus lightweight enough to pop in your suitcase, i took with me and also used on my bridesmaid dress, the day of the wedding for those last minute creases and it handled the intricate lace and masses of tulle perfectly, plus allowed last minute touch ups for the brides dress too without the worry of burning (not what you need on a brides big day!!). The only thing i am not so keen on is that you cannot leave it to cool down flat/stood up like you can a traditional iron, so i tend to sit on the heatproof mat i use with my GHD's for protection. Also it does have an slightly annoying buzzing noise when in use, but i can live with that especially as it fascinates the cat (she sat on the bed watching me use it the other morning, totally mesmerized!).

The Philips Steam & go has an RRP of £80, but i have found it in a few places cheaper (John Lewis). This may seem expensive but is well worth the money and is comparable to some of the "top of the line" irons available plus anything that means i don't have to fight with an ironing board is great!
