How To Wear
Introducing the chino, the newest trouser style in my wardrobe and a welcome change to my normal choice of skinny jeans. Now when I say chino, this in my world means a loose fit style trouser usually made from cotton, with a rolled up cuff and they are typically in Khaki green but as you will see above there are some great other colours too - grey & a classic beige.
I have a khaki pair from last summer that I lived in, so much lighter than jeans, a stylish summer alternative. My chosen pair were from Mint Velvet (uniform allowance) and are back again in the range this season (Button Pocket Chino) along with a new grey paperbag waist style that are gorgeous - as modelled above (image 2) by one of my collegues, the lovely Emily and styled with the Tie Sleeve Sweatshirt. As someone who can really struggle with trousers, I have found Chinos a very versitile style for my apple body shape, especially as they show off a bit of ankle and sit a little higher on the waist.
What to pair with them?
My one style rule: keep your top half fitted - tuck it in (full or french), to show off the waistband. Chinos work best with a simple t-shirt or sweatshirt, a more tailored shirt, your favourite lightweight knit or a summery vest, anything that can be tucked in. In addition chinos look great with a jacket - a structured, slightly oversized blazer is perfect especially when paired with a simple white tee or for a more casual look opt, for the classic denim jacket or a more edgy leather jacket.
The Footwear
Trainers or flat sandals are no brainers with this style, playing on the casual nature of the trouser, but a wedged espadrille or classic court shoe can also look great and add some height - perfect for us vertically challenged ladies. Dependant on the cut and length, ankle boots also work really well too but stick with a simple, slender pair - sock boots in particular are ideal as they sit under the cuff without adding bulk to the ankle.
The Accessories
I would personally go for a crossbody or tote bag, a summery straw style bag especially would be a great pairing, adds a bit of fun. If you do tuck in your top, pop on a belt and go for one with a statement buckle - adds detail and helps to define the waist. I also love adding a classic fedora on a cooler day, something so chic about finishing off an outfit with a hat.

Such a versitile piece to have in your wardrobe - can be kept super low key and casual, or really dressed up. Until recently I have shied away from shorts, for me they were simply a holiday item of clothing, not easy to wear day to day and for me not the most flattering....that is until i discovered paperbag waist shorts. This style of shorts has completely changed my opinion and has opened my eyes to just how versitile they actually are. For me they are a great piece to wear on my mum days, my legs are out but no chance of flashing knickers while I am crawling around soft play or running after my newly walking toddler.
So first up are you a floaty, cotton or denim shorts kinda girl...choose your style, length & colour, then your ready to style them up.
What to pair with them?
Shorts are one of those pieces, that seem to work with every kind of top, I love to style mine up with a basic or slogan T-shirt, jersey vest, silky camis and slouchy shirts. I always tend to go a little oversized with my tops, then do a french tuck in the front to give my waist definition. I think shorts look so much more than beach wear when teamed with a jacket, be that a blazer, denim or biker. Personally I really like a paperbag waist pair of shorts styled with a classic tee and a blazer, this is my go to combination. As you can see from the styling inspiration images above there are so many ways to style, dependant on the occassion.

Today I wanted to share three ways I would style this gorgeous black chiffon skirt from Mint Velvet. As I have said before, I am more Primark than Prada, so I have tried to include a variety of brands and price points, channeling the best way to put an outfit together (more about the High & Low method here...).

Finally something for those cooler days. Embracing THE trend of AW18, leopard print with these statement ankle boots - I love a midi skirt with ankle boots, very chic. Keeping the rest of the outfit simple with a lightweight grey knit tucked in, a biker jacket thrown over the top and finished off with a classic black fedora.

Aim of the game with this months fashion item, is to style this historically utility associated garment and a) not look like a dock worker or b) look like a toddler. I believe that there are two ways to wear - casually with a tee & trainers or dressed up with heels and a statement bag. Most options around on the highstreet currently are in either traditional denim /gorgeous pastel coloured denim or summery cotton. I actually fell in love with the idea of dungarees when i was pregnant, very cute and bump accommodating but was so unsure how to style.
Personally i see the dungaree as a transitional piece, ideal for those spring & autumn days, when you need a little more coverage, teamed with bare ankles and a great tee. Dungarees would be a lot harder to style in the winter, cute with ankle boots, but a coat layered over the top would hide your silhouette, which this piece really shows off however there is something cute about teaming it with a chunky, slouchy knit (see image below) for a off duty weekend look. A buttoned up denim shirt also seems like a great layering option.

Starting small with a green bag or a bold accessory like tassel earrings is a great way to introduce any colour. Then i would step it up with a simple knitwear piece or classic coat/jacket, a perfect partner for your favourite denim. Next comes head to toe...as with any statement look try to layer shades and textures to give the outfit depth - a printed dress under a coat or perhaps a chic pyjama suit like above.
I love elements of all the looks featured in this post but for me the most inspirational are the three below. As i mentioned, it was a Blair Eadie look that inspired this post and these three are the outfits that i connected with and really want to recreate. Attention to detail in these looks is phenomenal - how does she make a simple breton tee, denim dungarees and a beret look so friggin chic? I think this is how I would like to add green to an outfit, adding to a pieces I already enjoy wearing like denim. Metallics in particular are proving to be a favourite on the street, allowing a touch of glamour to be added to an everyday look - i myself have embraced the trend and added a blush pink with silver flecks version (from Primark) to my wardrobe and have been styling it up with a slogan tee and converse. Speaking of converse, the pleated midi works with so many different shoes - trainers, heels, sandals even ankle boots.
My favourite looks from this post would have to be the header image - simple and girly, keeping the whole look tonal in this beautiful lilac palette, with a statement on-trend bag. The second would have to be the centre image below - a different take on the pleated skirt in plush pink velvet, teamed with a simple sweatshirt and the most amazing statement shoes...glitter, embellishment and pompoms ❤. Finally in contrast to the super girly, i am also really into the black skirt and Kenzo jumper combo, the ankle boots toughed up the look whilst the sunglasses and simple hair keep it looking cool and everyday.

A simple print that these days comes in so many colour/size variations and mixes well with other prints - see more in my Mixing Prints post. Now while i love this statement print, i do find there is a fine line between chic style and looking like Pat Butcher (for those not familiar, she was a character in the British soap Eastenders who had some very interesting taste in clothing and earrings - give her a google so you know what to avoid).

Now everyone loves a print, usually a classic stripe or bold floral but if you really want to step it up, the new style challenge is to mix and match....layering up bold combinations and making a statement.

2. Then try mixing two prints, ideally with one unifying colour, or play with one print in different sizes.
3. Once you've mastered two prints add a third, but keep it a neutral or monochrome - leopard is a perfect example.

How to Wear: Mixed Prints
It has been a little while since i last did a "How to Wear" post...but i was feeling inspired after coming across some gorgeous images on Pinterest. Now everyone loves a print, usually a classic stripe or bold floral but if you really want to step it up, the new style challenge is to mix and match....layering up bold combinations and making a statement.
So here are my top tips for mixing prints like a pro:

1. Start simple by swapping out your solid coloured top for a classic spot or stripe.
2. Then try mixing two prints, ideally with one unifying colour, or play with one print in different sizes.
3. Once you've mastered two prints add a third, but keep it a neutral or monochrome - leopard is a perfect example.
Just remember....match colours not prints, leopard is always a neutral and mixing up print sizes is a great alternative and if you still need some inspiration try out the following combinations:

Historically an item of clothing synonymous with old ladies, the cardigan has over the past few years become a fashionistas best friend. The perfect layering item when its too cold for bare arms but a little too warm for a coat, whilst still adding an element of chic to your outfit. Whilst some cardigans still offer that element of granny chic (which some people like from their knitwear), others remain classic yet modernised with belts, embellishments and super chunky knits in luxurious yarns such as mohair and cashmere.
A great versatile item, the cardigan looks just as good with jeans and a tee as it does layered over your favourite dress but you need to get proportions right. I love to wear an chunky oversized cardi but will always wear skinny jeans on the bottom to balance out my proportions, or if i am wearing a full dress/skirt i will opt for a slimmer, cropped style. I really love the final look above with a long chunky cardi styled with a simple pair of jeans and a statement belt to pull the look together. Also a great way to introduce a pop of colour or even print to a simple outfit - with bright stripes or bold flecked yarns.

I felt very inspired so lots of pictures for this How to Wear instalment...
An item of clothing that i have struggled with, can look very tarty if styled wrong but with the right partner and accessories is a very chic look. Many of the styles seen in street style are faux leather, as i am sure most people cannot afford the cost of a true leather skirt but these days like faux fur the imitation styles are almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
I always thought if i were to wear a leather skirt it would be a mini however recently i have seen some beautifully styled midi styles - for example the gorgeous bottle green image above, teamed with a chunky knit and cute plaid shoes. Also i love how polished a pencil style can look when teamed with a crisp white shirt and simple accessories. No matter what style you decide to go for, keep the rest of the outfit classic - a sweatshirt, white shirt or tee with a cute pair of shoes and your favorite bag - this item of clothing is definitely not one to wear with lots of bold colour.
Think this is an item i will be adding to my "try in 2016" list - perhaps a skater style mini teamed with ankle boots or a midi with cage style sandals. Either way it will be on my list, so keep an eye on my Instagram feed.

The Leather midi skirt, camel jumper and plaid heel combo above is my favourite look, a great way to add in warmth to a stylish outfit and perfect for work. My favourite look out of the three, comfy and casual but still trendy.
An oversized piece of knitwear, this jumper is Topshop last year but snuggly and perfect with a side tuck (similar styles here and here). Styled with croc effect slipon sneakers - New Look, that offer some additional texture to a black outfit and a chunky blanket scarf - old Primark (similar styles here and here). Probably topped off with a simple cross-body bag, in keeping with the casual feel of the outfit.
LOOK 3
A little more sophisticated look, very monochrome and great for the office.
A simple roll neck top - H&M, for warmth layered with a super furry Gilet - Topshop and finished with some western style ankle boots - Primark. Styled with my tan H&M tassel bag to add a splash of colour and continue the 70's vibe.
