So I decided to take control of my skincare this year and lockdown has proven to be a great time to strip things back and embrace lots of no make up days. My skin has been ok this year, but my cheeks have been a little bit blotchy since the end of February after I reacted to a cheap face mask. I decide to strip my skincare back to basics and use some old favourites as well as trying out a couple of new products, which I know can be risky with problem skin, but I did my research and chose products specifically targeted to my skin type/issues and from trusted brands. Overall the combination of products I have been using has worked wonders for my skin.....I have really found that tailoring the products I use based on what I've done that day and how my skin is feeling, rather than a strict regimen has been key.
So my skincare is split into three sections - cleansers, masks/peels & moisturisers. The only thing I don't use currently is a toner....but I am gonna look to add one in now I have found a combination that works. Most of these products are night time only, I tend to keep it very simple in the morning with just a sweep of micellar water followed by a good moisturiser and face specific SPF.
So here are the products I have been using.....
- Cleansers -
First up cleansing products...this is the main area that varies dependant on the day. If I am wearing a full face of make up (usually a work day) I will double cleanse - Garnier Micellar Water with a reusable bamboo cotton pad (this is also my morning product of choice) followed by Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm.....the best combination to remove all the make up especially black mascara - but I do find it too intense for everyday. For all other days, where I am usually wearing little to no makeup, I will use a hot cloth cleanser, normally this would be the cult classic Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish but I ran out of it during lockdown so thought I would give the Aldi Lacura vitamin C version a try & I am really impressed, it has left my skin soft and glowing (especially as its £3.99 a tube with muslin cloth vs £15 for Liz Earle). Each of these cleaners leave my skin clean, soft and helps to limit blemishes.
- Masks & Peels -
I have always used a face mask, but I introduced a liquid peel to help resurface my skin particularly my cheeks where I have the texture. I aim to use my The Body Shop Drops of Light Resurfacing Liquid Peel twice a week to help remove dead skin - this frequency has helped to maintain smoothness, I was doing it three times but have dropped it down to twice as my pores are visibly reduced and much smoother. I then use a face mask once a week - usually as a Sunday evening treat. For the masks I alternate between The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask and Primark's Pore Balance Clay Mask (read a full review of this product here). Both masks are intense enough to really penetrate the skin, but don't leave it dry afterwards, I especially like the charcoal/clay elements as I really feel the deep cleansing. I will occasionally use a lighter fruity mask or I do like a sheet mask to refresh the skin but usually as a treat. I am super careful though with the brands/types I choose as it was a cheap gel formula mask that left me with horrible red blotchy cheeks earlier in the year.
- Moisturisers -
Last up is moisturisers, this is the part that is most important as my skin is naturally very dry. I will use The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting moisturiser first thing in the morning. I then use the Epaderm cream at night, as this is an intensive moisturiser, that really gives my skin plenty of TLC while I sleep. Not a normal choice but it was recommended to me by the doctor to help replace the moisture in my skin that it was severely lacking, and it has really helped (although I do look a bit like a Moomin whilst it sinks into the skin!). I will sometimes also use the Primark Sleep Spa Sleeping Mask if my skin is looking like it needs a little extra - this leaves my skin soft and plump when I wake up in the morning and works well in combination with the Epaderm.
So that's it - not too many products and as I said this combination is really working for my skin, although I will have to keep working on it, as this wearing a mask addition to everyday life (even a breathable cotton one) has left me spottier than I have been in years! my poor little nose is starting to look like a dot to dot!!

The Body shop is a brand synonymous with my teenage years, I was obsessed with their Peppermint foot lotion & the Satsuma shower gel, oh and those little round pearl like bath balls (wish I knew what they were called!) I loved to collect all the colours. It's only in the last few months that I became interested in seeing what the brand is about now...more specifically their skincare products, which were almost non existent when I was younger. One of the products I was most interested in, as I had heard so many positive comments about them, was the Liquid peel collection and I wanted to give one of them a try. Deciding between the three peels was a tough choice but with each offering something different for a targeted skin issue, this made it easier to choose - Drops of Light for Resurfacing, Drops of Youth for youthful looking skin & Vitamin C to reveal your skins natural glow. Based on my skin type I went for the Drops of Light peel to help smooth and resurface my skin, as I am prone to large pores and blemishes.
Drops of Light - Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel: This quick fix brightening essential will visibly brighten appearance after first use. Transforming gel-to-peel technology that traps and gently peels off impurities and dead skin cells to unveil healthy-looking skin that feels resurfaced from first use. With continued use, skin looks more luminous and skin texture looks refined. This resurfacing peel has brightening elements, with Red Algae extract, which is rich in vitamin C, minerals & nutrients. - The Body Shop
How to use: Dispense two pumps of the liquid peel onto your fingertips and apply to cleansed, dry skin avoiding the eye and mouth areas. Massage into skin for up to 20 seconds until exfoliating residues appear noticeably and are peeled off. Rinse thoroughly with water. If needed, you also can use a muslin cloth with toner to remove the last traces from your skin.
Use 2-3 times a week for best results.
My Review
First impressions - the packaging is a sleek, simple design, no unnecessary extras just the bottle, plus I love the rose gold label, adds a touch of luxury to the design. A generous sized pump, allows for precise dispensing of the product, which will help to make the 145ml bottle last for months - a good thing as at £18.50 a bottle it isn't that cheap. The consistency and texture of the product before rubbed into the skin, is less gel like than I imagined, it reminds me of a lighter version of the Glossier Milk Jelly cleanser. I did notice the smell of the product is interesting, not bad just not recognisable like many Body Shop products, I assume it is the Red Algae extract, that gives it this distinct scent which has grown on me and I find quite relaxing.
I first tried the peel on the back of hand, as I can have sensitive skin and like to test before applying to my face (have been left with red blotchy skin, so always test before you apply a new product). It applied smoothly, the product formed quickly into what I can only describe as soft "blobs" - not quite how I imagined it to come off the skin but oddly impressive and it left my skin feeling very soft.
The first time I used it on my face, I found the recommended two pumps quite a lot of liquid to handle in one go but once on the skin it covered my face well and wasn't sticky. It kinda feels weird when you start rubbing it in and the "blobs" are forming on your face but it is strangely satisfying watching them appear on your skin....I like a product that you can actually see working. I will say I find removing the remainder of the product, easier with a face cloth/reusable pad, just splashing my face with water doesn't quite remove it all and it can leave the skin feeling a little greasy. Once rinsed my skin felt so soft, a tad dry around my nose (a problem area) but fine after my moisturiser was applied. My skin didn't react afterwards either, which it can do sometimes so very happy. I will admit I was a little apprehensive before trying the product, only because the term "peel" made me think of something quite intense & harsh like a chemical peel but I was so pleased to find this to be gentle on my skin. One final thing I would say, is that with any product like this that removes dead skin, you should always wear a good quality SPF the next day as your skin will be a little more sun sensitive.
After using the peel for two weeks (3 times a week), my skin feels softer, smoother and my pores seem less defined. I have a small area of scaring on my cheek and that is much less obvious and smoother. I did think that with each use the amount of "blobs" forming would decrease, but they seem to be fairly consistent, nice to know the product is working just as hard now, as it did on the first application. I am interested to see how my skin looks after a few months of use - will do a little update in this post later in the year.
Overall I would definitely recommend this product - clever, simple and does what it says. The price point is a little higher than I normally go for a product like this, but its really worth the money and based on how much you use in one application, should last for a few months...

Regular cotton pads don't biodegrade due to the bleaching and mixing processes used to create them. The beauty industry has progressed so much now, there’s no need for cotton! So I decided to make my beauty routine a little more sustainable and switch to using reusable bamboo cotton pads - having used these now for two months, I wanted to share my experience and give an honest review.
I originally wanted to try the Face Halo pads but at £18 for just three pads, I decided to shop around as 3 pads just wouldn't get washed quick enough in my house! After a lot of research, looking at not only price but design and storage, I went for the Mooju Reusable Makeup Remover Pads from Amazon. A relavtively cheap set, as I didnt want to spend the earth until I knew if they worked for me and my skin, which can be sensitive with new products. The pads in this particular set are 2 ply, made from 70% bamboo / 30% cotton, unbleached, polar fleece making them soft, hypo-allergenic and perfect for all skin types, as bamboo has natural antibacterial properties. With 21 pads included this set has everything you need - 7 small for eye makeup removal, 7 for toner application and 7 general facial cleansing. It also comes with a little mesh bag for you to pop dirty pads in and a bamboo terry headband (nice little addition).
So far I haven't actually used the pads for what is specified in the product description, I tend to use the two largest sizes for general face cleansing with either Micellar water or Clinque Take the Day off Balm cleanser but I do use the smaller pads for my eyes as they are the perfect size. The pads are so soft (even after multiple washes) and really help to properly clean my face, removing even waterproof mascara. I actually think, especially teamed with my Garnier Micellar water that these pads are so much better at getting the day off my face, they are always so much dirtier than a regular disposable pad ever was with the same cleanser. I also find they aren't super absorbant, unlike a disposable cotton pad which saves you money as your aren't using as much cleansing products, a great benefit.
Washing these pads couldn't be simpler - just pop all the dirty pads into the little mesh bag (very important, do not put in loose or they will end up stuck in the seal of the machine yuck!), throw it in the machine with your regular load of washing and they come out clean everytime - the only thing I do make sure to do, is rinsing the pad with hot water after use just to remove the bulk of the product before it goes into the bag. I then just leave them to air dry and once they are pop them back in the tub.....easy peasy.
One additional thing that I loved about this set is that the box/tub the pads come in is not only pretty but practical. It is the perfect place to store all the clean pads ready to use - but you wanna keep it away from water as it is cardboard!
Final Thoughts....
All in all I would definitely recommend this set - considering the fact it was only £13.99 I have been blown away by the quality and softness of the pads and am really happy that I made the switch from disposable pads. Whilst there are more expensive/better known brands out there like Halo, I do believe that we shouldn't have to spend a fortune to do our bit for the enviroment and this is a great budget alternative. For me this set has the perfect number of pads, allowing me to use two a day if I need to and not be worried if I need to go longer between washes perhaps whilst on holiday. The storage tub is ideal and as a bonus looks lovely in my bathroom. I am however intrigued to see just how long the pads last but only time will tell on that and maybe I will do an update to this post when they do need replacing. I will add though the only thing I do still use single use pads for is removing nail polish - not sure that would wash out so easily!

As creature of comfort, I find I am really loyal when it comes to makeup products, when I find one I love thats my go to...sometimes for years. Foundation/base products have always been a tough one for me, I struggle to find one that gives me the desired coverage, whilst looking natural and not ridiculously expensive. I suffer from dry skin along with having large pores so some foundations just sit on the skin badly and make me look worse! #notwhatineed. I have also found that my skin prefers a lightweight formula so BB & CC creams work the best for me rather a heavy foundation. Having been a Bourjois 123 Perfect CC cream fan for years, I decided to give the It Cosmetics CC cream a go after hearing so much hype in the beauty world....was a little hesitant as at £31 a tube it is pricey for me but I loved the results and it has become my daily go to product. Origionally I bought the classic CC cream, but after wanting something a little more dewey I decided to give the illuminating version a go and I am so pleased I did..... I wanted to share my first impressions with you.

First Impressions...
Just as flawless and easy to apply as the origional CC Cream but it offers an additional glow and natural highlight at the same time. A smooth, non drying formula, that applies flawlessy, although I do use my fingers, not a brush as I find this gives me a much better finish and a tube usually lasts me six months, as I only need two pumps for full coverage, which actually makes the cost per wear minimal. I did go to Boots (Fosse Park) to the It Cosmetics counter to get colour matched as I wasnt 100% sure that I would be the same shade in both products after reading a few reviews however I was, but in my opinion best to check as the product comes in 11 shades. I was pleasently surprised that I was shade "light," as I would normally go for something a little darker but the second the lady put it on my face I could see this was my perfect colour match. I do think this product is worth the hype and the cost, as it really does do what it says on the tube - I am so pleased with the results, natural but makes my skin look smooth, glowy and reduces the apperance of my pores. I am also really pleased with the SPF 50 protection, as my morning time is limited due to a toddler, so knowing I have sun protection within my makeup routine is perfect. My final comment has to be about the packaging, I like the origional but the combination of pink and hollographic details is just gorgeous....I am sucker for pretty packaging, I can't help it! First Impressions: ItCosmetics Illumination CC Cream
As creature of comfort, I find I am really loyal when it comes to makeup products, when I find one I love thats my go to...sometimes for years. Foundation/base products have always been a tough one for me, I struggle to find one that gives me the desired coverage, whilst looking natural and not ridiculously expensive. I suffer from dry skin along with having large pores so some foundations just sit on the skin badly and make me look worse! #notwhatineed. I have also found that my skin prefers a lightweight formula so BB & CC creams work the best for me rather a heavy foundation. Having been a Bourjois 123 Perfect CC cream fan for years, I decided to give the It Cosmetics CC cream a go after hearing so much hype in the beauty world....was a little hesitant as at £31 a tube it is pricey for me but I loved the results and it has become my daily go to product. Origionally I bought the classic CC cream, but after wanting something a little more dewey I decided to give the illuminating version a go and I am so pleased I did..... I wanted to share my first impressions with you.

The latest highstreet beauty range to hit the market, is from none other than Primark- offering targeted products at bargain prices, so of course I was intrigued. As someone who has been more invested in my skincare routine in the last couple of years, but not wanting to spend lots on new products I wanted to give this range a try for myself. This premium skincare has been developed in collaboration with Alessandra Steinherr, one of the beauty industry's most renowned editors and skincare experts. With products designed to target specific skin concerns rather than skin types, the range comprises of 20 skincare goodies, all coming in at £5 or under. One of the main reasons I was so intrigued by this collaboration, is that Primark have enlisted a true expert, giving the products industry standard creditials and means this isn't just another low budget range that offers no real benefits. Also rather than just launching in store, each product and its benefits have been explained by its creator - giving consumers confidence to buy and an understanding of what each product has been designed for.
The products are split into five collections within the range, each is designed to target specific skin concerns:
Sleep Spa - Products that work whilst you sleep to leave skin feeling plumped, hydrated and restored.
Pore Balance - This range gently purifies and calms the skin, leaving it smooth and hydrated.
Plump & Glow - A plumping range that leaves skin with a fresh youthful appearance.
Maximum Moisture - For skin that needs a moisture surge, this range will be like a cool glass of water for the skin.
Pollution Solution - A range for city skin that counteracts some of the external factors our skin faces on a daily basis.

Pollution Solution - Daily skin starter £5
This was my gamble product, I wasn't in need of a "priming" product but thought anything that boasts pollution protection, in this day and age was worth a try. A nice cooling gel like formulation, a little like hand sanitizer, in a pump dispenser that gave just the right amount of product needed. Easy to apply, glides on to the skin without feeling sticky and absorbs quickly. I have worn both alone on top of my usual moisturiser as well as under makeup as a priming base - not 100% sure it has affected my makeup application but always good to know my skin has some protection underneath my CC cream. A nice to have product but not sure I would repurchase, as unlike the others I haven't found it added much to my skincare routine.
Pore Balance - Face Mask £5
I was probably most excited about this product, as it contains clay & charcoal, two ingredients that my skin really reacts well to and I love a pampering face pack on a Sunday. First of all I really like the packaging, a great pump dispenser, giving control as a little goes a long way - 100ml has lasted ages even when used twice a week. The mask itself was smooth to apply and gave good coverage. Once applied it left my face with a gentle tingling sensation and after 10 minutes washed off easily, with a clean muslin face cloth. Afterwards my skin felt taught, smooth and really clean. My skin responds well to a clay mask, it helps to deep clean my skin without drying it out and usually helps to keep pimples at bay and this mask has done just that. Will definitely be buying a second tube once mine finally runs out.
Sleep spa - Face Mask £5
A hydrating, overnight treatment for the face, that works to plump, smooth & restore skin whilst you sleep. Good sized 50ml tube with a pump dispenser, containing an almost milky/gel like consistency cream (hard to describe!). Applies well although a little sticky on the skin, but absorbs quickly and leaves you with a healthy glow. My skin has felt plumped and hydrated after each use and I am already onto my second tube! This has been my favourite product in the range so far, offering something I haven't seen before, and that actually has made a difference to my skin - I apply after my regular moisturiser before bed and wake feeling refreshed. I have also seen a difference in my makeup after using this mask, it seems to give my skin a softer base to apply my CC cream or foundation to.

An easy addition to my night time skincare, this little gel formula eye treatment, offers a cooling experience for tired eyes. With just one pump I was able to apply on both eyes, dabbing into my under eye area and gentle onto the lids. I was impressed to see a small difference after just one application, with both eyes seeming a little less puffy. As I don't use this every night, this small tube will last for ages, making it great value for money. Still undecided if I will be repurchasing or not, but would recommend especially if you suffer from tried puffy eyes on a regular basis.

Makeup Revolution was a recent brand discovery of mine, earlier this year and so far all the products i have tried, i have loved so thought i would give these beautiful but odd new brushes a try. To begin with i went for the Large Oval Face Brush, as i am in need of a new foundation brush, plus it is the most versatile I think as it can also be used for bronzer and powder too - a great all rounder.

Armed with my Borjouis foundation, the first thing I noticed was just how beautiful the rose gold handles are, something simple but important to me. Next up the bristles are packed super dense which creates the perfect soft cushion (don't think I have ever used such a soft brush before) and along with the oval shaped head of the brush, allows smooth application. The brush is easy to use, offers quick application of foundation/powder and despite its large size, gets into all the small areas around your eyes and nose easily. My only comment would be that the handle looks flimsy but to my surprise is actually strong yet flexible. This brush left my foundation looking smooth and natural, the perfect base for an everyday look and helped my look to last all day, especially around my nose where I often struggle.
I would definitely recommend this brush and after using it, i am now very interested in trying out some of the others in the collection. Next time i am in Superdrug, i will be picking up the oval cheek brush and if that is just as good, maybe all eight brushes from the collection will end up in my makeup bag!

Since having my hair cut into a long bob last year, i have given my haircare routine a shake up - not only because i had about 4 inches taken off but because my hair has become quite dry and damaged. I wanted to show you all the products and tools i use to cleanse / protect / style my hair. This combination of products gives me manageable locks, that are soft and hydrated. Plus through beauty boxes i have discovered lots of new products over the last 6 months and have adopted a couple into my routine, alongside some of my faithful favourites that i have used for years.

First up i wash my hair with the new L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay re-balancing shampoo (which helps with both oily roots and dry ends, perfect for my hair), then coat my hair in the matching conditioner and leave in for around five minutes while i wash/shave my legs/tan etc. Then once washed out i will also add a spritz of the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave in conditioner onto the ends of my hair for some added protection. Twice a month i will switch it up and use my OGX Anti-breakage Keratin Oil shampoo instead of the L'Oreal Elvive duo to give an extra boost with the keratin and argan oils. A few basic tools in my routine... a Birchbox "tangle teaser" style brush, a large paddle brush, actually from Primark, gives me a smooth blowout. A basic drugstore, wide tooth comb perfect for combing through wet hair without causing breakage. Remington Hairdryer, not sure what model as it is about 8 years old, but i always buy my hairdryers from Remington as they work well and last for years. Finally the one item in my entire routine that i couldn't live without! my GHD classic straighteners. Naturally i have thick, curly and coarse hair that without heat intervention leaves me looking like i have a lions mane....so thank god for GHD's. I tried many brands of straighteners when i was younger, mainly because of the price of GHD's however none compare to the effortless, smooth styling achieved - would never go back to cheap alternatives. Finishing
I try and keep the finishing products i use to a minimum, so i have narrowed it down to just three. First up dry shampoo, which i will use straight after washing my hair to add a little grit to a fresh blow dry and then on days in between washing to freshen up and add volume back into my hair. I used to be an advocate of the Batiste dry shampoo however i discovered Co-lab Dry Shampoo from Superdrug and much prefer the smell, texture and consistency - I always go for the Paris floral fragrance as i find it light and fresh. Next up once i have curled my hair, which i tend to do everyday now i will add some extra texture, to give an almost beach waves feel and the best spray i have found so far is the Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising spray. Lighter than a salt spray but offers both texture and light hold, perfect for loose curls. Finally a product i only tend to use with a updo is my L'Oreal Elnett Stain Hairspray, offers great hold but brushes out easily.Colab Dry Shampoo

My Haircare Routine
Since having my hair cut into a long bob last year, i have given my haircare routine a shake up - not only because i had about 4 inches taken off but because my hair has become quite dry and damaged. I wanted to show you all the products and tools i use to cleanse / protect / style my hair. This combination of products gives me manageable locks, that are soft and hydrated. Plus through beauty boxes i have discovered lots of new products over the last 6 months and have adopted a couple into my routine, alongside some of my faithful favourites that i have used for years.
Cleanse
First up i wash my hair with the new L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay re-balancing shampoo (which helps with both oily roots and dry ends, perfect for my hair), then coat my hair in the matching conditioner and leave in for around five minutes while i wash/shave my legs/tan etc. Then once washed out i will also add a spritz of the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave in conditioner onto the ends of my hair for some added protection. Twice a month i will switch it up and use my OGX Anti-breakage Keratin Oil shampoo instead of the L'Oreal Elvive duo to give an extra boost with the keratin and argan oils. A few basic tools in my routine... a Birchbox "tangle teaser" style brush, a large paddle brush, actually from Primark, gives me a smooth blowout. A basic drugstore, wide tooth comb perfect for combing through wet hair without causing breakage. Remington Hairdryer, not sure what model as it is about 8 years old, but i always buy my hairdryers from Remington as they work well and last for years. Make Up Revolution, a beauty brand that i have only recently discovered - stumbled upon it whilst looking for a new inexpensive blusher in my local Superdrug store. A relatively new highstreet make up brand, started in 2014 with an amazing range of products at purse friendly prices, with most items coming in at under £10. So far i have only tried a few items but i thought i would share my first impressions, as all of the products have made it into my everyday make up bag. Ultra Pointed Crease Eye Makeup Brush £5.99
A bit of a impulse purchase - not gonna lie was drawn in by the gorgeous rose gold handle and soft fluffy bristles, but did need a new eyeshadow brush so thought i would give the Revolution brushes a try. The perfect shape and size for creating both subtle and dramatic eye looks with powder shadows, would be interested to try with a cream formula too. Applies and blends beautifully especially metallic shades which can be tougher to apply evenly.
Picked this product up as an emergency buy on a hen night - the moment of realisation that i had forgotten my fixing spray - wearing a white dress and parting all night, definitely needed to make sure my makeup stayed on my face. Really impressed by the product especially as i simply grabbed the cheapest spray i could find, and it lasted all night. Only thing i have found through daily use, is i need to apply mascara afterwards or i end up with panda eyes as it is quite a wet formulation when applied, but dries fast. This bottle is now almost empty so need to repurchase.
Blush Palette Golden Sugar £6
Not sure what shade of blusher i needed, i thought buying a multi palette would be good, give me a chance to try out different shades until i found the one. A great 8 palette, which actually has a mixture of blush, highlight and contour shades perfect for creating a whole look. All very subtle shades of pink, the blushers are perfect for a rosy cheek look but it is the highlighters that i am most impressed with. Baked product with a beautiful iridescent glow that gives my skin the perfect touch of shimmer, highlighting my cheek bones and brow bone for an everyday look.
Also discovered the brands "little sister" range I heart Make-up, which has some budget versions of the Too Faced chocolate palettes, which look like amazing dupes - £8 for 16 shades! Saw this palette was a collaboration, designed by British Beauty Blogger Jane Cunningham! and was so impressed when i saw it in person. A great collection of shades mixing both matte and shimmer - from subtle everyday nudes and pinks to statement purples and greens. Not convinced i will use them all but so far am loving the nudes (Glimmer, Buffer & Golden Coins) and especially the rose gold shades (Favour, Pink Diamond & Sunset Hour). Great pigmentation and staying power, even in the lighter shades which i do find can come off easily throughout the day. I am particularly impressed with the shimmery shades, offering a subtle sparkle without looking like a disco ball - can't wait to try out some of the more dramatic dark shades on a night out. Plus i like that both palettes come with a large mirror in the lid, great for doing your makeup on the go.
